Need a place to start in your own Personal Growth journey? There are so many resources out there, and it can be a bit daunting to know where to start. I recommend using this list of books to help you achieve anything you want in your life. These books have helped me tremendously in my personal and professional life and can help you too.
A Book List to Help You on
Your Personal Growth Journey
Having the correct mindset is absolutely necessary on this personal creative growth journey you’re taking. Several of these books speak to that and how you can reframe your focus, thoughts, and feelings to be the fuel that not only keeps you going but excels you towards your goal(s).
A lot of us are busy moms, multitasking between kids, work, and life. While paper books are enormously appealing for their tactile (touch, feel, smell) nature, it’s not always a viable option for us. Therefore, I highly recommend purchasing these books for Kindle or iBook to be able to read on the go*. Think: standing in line at the grocery store, sitting in the waiting room at the doctors, waiting in your car in the school pick-up line = mini wins for your time by working on your personal growth with tidbit reading sessions!
Want an even better time management platform? Get the Audible* version and listen while you clean the house, work out, or drive to work.
Hope you enjoy some or all of these books on the list. Comment below on how they have helped you personally on your Personal Growth journey. Can’t wait to hear all about it!

EXCUSE ME YOUR LIFE IS WAITING – by Lynn Grabhorn
This is by far my most favorite book on this list and why I have it listed first! Some of you may have read books like The Secret or other similar Law of Attraction focused books on revamping your thoughts to attain success. This book fills in the gaps in this process and shows how your emotions and feelings have a HUGE impact on implementing the Law of Attraction in your life. In addition, this expanded edition on Kindle or in print also includes a 16-page study guide – for individual and group use.“Whether your want is to find the fastest way around the traffic downtown or to find a new mate, all you have to do is pay attention to the signs that will come to make it happen…and learn to trust them!”–from the book.
MINDSET: THE NEW PSYCHOLOGY – by Carol Dweck
Dweck provides insight into whether we approach life with a fixed or growth mindset and why this determines our success, not our talents and abilities. Having the right mindset is a key foundation on your creative growth journey. Whether you’re a teacher, parent, athlete, or business person, you can use this idea to propel you towards achieving great things in your life.
GRIT: THE POWER OF PASSION AND PERSEVERANCE – by Angela Duckworth
In this book, Duckworth shares her own powerful story as a daughter of a scientist that questioned her own abilities. She explains that the secret to outstanding achievement is not talent but a focused persistence called “grit.” This was her first book and an instant New York Times bestseller!
CAPTIVATE: THE SCIENCE OF SUCCEEDING WITH PEOPLE – by Vanessa Van Edwards
Van Edwards has cracked the code to change your relationships with people at work, at home, or in any social setting. She shows you how to work a room, read faces, and talk to anyone. These skills are easy to learn and implement in your own life. You’ll never interact with people the same way again!
PERSONALITY PLUS – by Florence Littauer
How well do you know yourself? When you know what makes you act the way you do and who you are at the core, you can begin working on and improving your relationships with others effectively. No two people are alike. You’ll learn how to polish your strengths and chip away at your weaknesses. I love the insights I’ve gained from this book on the list and how it’s helped with my own creative growth.
HOW TO SAY IT FOR WOMEN: COMMUNICATING WITH CONFIDENCE AND POWER USING THE LANGUAGE OF SUCCESS – by Phyllis Mindell
This book has been foundational for me in thinking about how I write as a woman in my professional and personal life. Mindell, a communication expert, will teach you how to transform the way you speak and write with authority and command the respect you deserve without sacrificing your femininity and integrity.
SECRETS OF SIX-FIGURE WOMEN: SURPRISING STRATEGIES TO UP YOUR EARNINGS AND CHANGE YOUR LIFE – by Barbara Stanny
Did you know that the number of women that make over $100,000 a year is growing? What helps these women achieve greatness and increase their earning potential? Stanny will help inspire, motivate, and guide you to aspire to make more and change your life. Learning from others is always better than trying to figure it out yourself. Add this book from the list to your own library.
EXTREME OWNERSHIP: HOW U.S. NAVY SEALS LEAD AND WIN – by Jocko Willink (Author) and Leif Babin
Don’t get it twisted, this book is not just for military or business leaders…it’s for everyone! Willink and Babin were sent into one of the most violent battlegrounds in Iraq, facing impossible odds, but came home to train and forge the next generation of SEAL leaders. They brought this mindset into their personal company that they launched, Echelon Front, and have helped scores of people to implement their strategies in various business environments. You, too, can take these principles and strategies and apply them at home and in business to excel, lead, and win! Make this a staple on your own book list.
CAN’T HURT ME: MASTER YOUR MIND AND DEFY THE ODDS – by David Goggins
This New York Times bestseller is a truly inspiring book. Goggins overcame a nightmare childhood and accomplished great things in his life, reaching his true potential. He is the only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force Tactical Air Controller, going on to accomplish great feats to becoming known as the “The Fittest (Real) Man in America.” The Audible version includes over two hours of additional commentary not available on other formats, so I highly recommend going with the audiobook on this one.
THE SUBTLE ART OF NOT GIVING A F*CK: A COUNTERINTUITIVE APPROACH TO LIVING A GOOD LIFE – by Mark Manson
Last but not least, this book list is a fantastic and refreshing book on how to give the right focus on things that really matter. We are all flawed and limited (and no one can be positive all of the time) —”not everybody can be extraordinary, there are winners and losers in society, and some of it is not fair or your fault.” Manson shows us how to get to know our limitations and accept them, which is crucial in our creative growth journey.
